My husband and I needed to get a Will as we both own property and had nothing in place; we are getting on a bit and this was quite a concern.
I responded to an offer from Pattison James for an inexpensive Will Service and a telephone appointment was booked with Gary Lewis.
Gary called on time and explained every step in detail, in a way that was easy to understand. He took our personal circumstances into consideration and gave us excellent individual advice. We have managed to avoid certain pitfalls that we would have fallen into, had we not consulted him. We felt completely comfortable discussing our personal issues with him and he was totally professional, extremely knowledgeable and highly adaptable to our particular requests. The process went very smoothly. We ended up with a different kind of Will than we had expected, but without his expertise, we would have encountered several problems that would have affected us and our children negatively, down the line, so we are both relieved to have spoken to somebody that so clearly knows what he is doing.
We were surprised by how inexpensive the service is, and we have also taken the opportunity to have our Wills professionally stored, which includes any other important documents that need to go with it, such as Share Certificates, house deeds, etc, all for the same nominal fee.
I have had experience of Probate Solicitors before, and there is just no comparison; Pattison James are a different animal entirely; there to assist the Client at the most competitive rates available, they can offer recommendations to other services as well, all at the most reasonable rates.
Finding a good solicitor is a minefield, and we feel we have struck gold with Gary; he definitely went above and beyond to advise us, and was endlessly patient with my many questions. We also received paperwork via email to back this up, so we have something to refer to and to show our children if need be.
I cannot recommend Gary personally, nor Pattison James as a company, highly enough. I will be doing just that to all my friends and family with the confidence that they will get the same premium levels of service that we have gotten ourselves.
We are very happy customers indeed.
Btw, distance is NO problem, all documents can be posted, we will be issued with contact cards to give to our children, so that when the time comes, they can easily access all documents via post as well, and any assistance that they require to help them at a difficult time.
One of the best decisions we've made in recent years.

Most of us out there are not financially literate. Even fewer of us are literate to deal with estate planning, inheritance tax, setting up trusts, executors, trustees, beneficiaries, and guardians. I have been searching an honest succinct guidance to answer the above questions. Then I came across "The Meaningful Money Handbook" by Pete Matthew. I will recommend this book as it will help you understand your risks and the options to deal with them apart from other wealth of information to manage your finances. I was listening to audible version of the book and at one point the author said emphasizing the importance of Will that "stop listening here and go find a professional to write your Will if you have not got one". It is super super super important one needs to have Will irrespective of age or you are leaving your loved ones to the will of Tax man! Imagine your property is jointly owned and either one of you pass away, Tax man will come and claim tax of the partner passing away. As most of us don't have cash, so you will lose home straightaway. Impact is not only restricted to your home but then imagine one who passed away looks back and thinks what I could have done for my partner, kids and close relatives that would have made positive contribution to their lives, what I could have done to pass on my assets in a tax efficient way? In my mind, Will writing and Estate Planning can be one of the factor that can make rich people poor overnight. Answer to all these questions is Pattison James Associates Ltd. I have been with them now for couple of years. I had my Will and POA written by them and changed a few times (it is covered under fixed sum per year for storage and changes). Not a single time, I realised a drop in level of service. I met earlier this week with Gary Lewis for annual Will Review who thoroughly (1 hour 40 minutes) reviewed everything was in order, explained again various trusts and their significance and got my Will in order for me. I believe what they are charging for their services is nothing. If you can take away one best advice for you and your family this year, get your Will in place and grab Pattison James with both arms. Gary Lewis was so patient and knowledgeable - highly recommended if you can get hold of him. Please note that my above review is unbiased and I am not getting anything in return for writing this review. I believe one should appreciate good services and efforts of individuals so that others can benefit from it. Best of luck!!!
