Lucy's father passed away and she was the named executor of his Will which provided for his wife (her step-mother) in a manner that ensured the assets would eventually pass to her and her two brothers. Lucy's father considered himself more than competent on the internet and had spent hours researching Wills so he could get all his affairs in order in good time.
He found an advanced online Will writing service provided by a large reputable firm that allowed him to draft his Will the way he wanted without having to involve a professional Will writing consultant to guide him through the whys and wherefores of Will writing - afterall, the hi-tech Will writing software did all this for him, right? Sadly for Lucy and her brothers, their father's Will was flawed in that it failed to recognise the standard distribution of the jointly owned assets he held with his wife and as such, whilst the Will distributed all his assets to them, the main bulk (the house and money in bank accounts) went to his wife, with Lucy and her brothers receiving a broadly equal share of his personal possessions and some premium bonds.
One of the most common phrases we hear from new clients at the start of a Will writing appointment is "this will be really easy" however one of the most common responses we get in feedback from our clients after their Wills have been drawn up is that it really opened their eyes to things they hadn't even considered and are thankful they instructed us to write their Will and go on to recommend us to friends and family. This is only one of a number of issues that cause Wills to fail and so we'd encourage you not to take any chances and instead, book your Will writing appointment with us now and allow our team of professionals to take care of the rest.
